Maintenance law: GeCoBi defends itself against attacks on fathers

In the next few days, the Council of States, as a second chamber, is to decide on the revision of the maintenance law. GeCoBi firmly rejects this one-sided attack on single and divorced fathers. It perpetuates traditional roles and prevents both parents from playing a significant role in the care and upbringing of their children.

We criticize the fact that the present draft law is intended to throw tens of thousands of fathers into poverty and debt bondage - without them being able to meet their maintenance obligations through childcare services.

In our letter to the Council dated November 28, 2014, we discussed this issue and presented it using a specific numerical example.

For a long time, GeCoBi has been working on the reorganization of the maintenance law, which is already thoroughly unfair today. We have developed our own approach that takes the needs of both parents into account just as much as those of the children after a lived relationship with both parents.

On this page you will find an overview of our position on a progressive, simple and fair maintenance law.
