arguments

The concept of joint parental responsibility (geV) is a further development of joint parental responsibility (geS). The geV takes account of the criticism often leveled at the geS. The geS is limited to legal equality of father and mother. The geV, on the other hand, goes further by integrating two essential aspects of concrete everyday life: the distribution of care tasks and the resolution of conflicts. In doing so, it draws on two tried and tested concepts: arranged mediation (as is being introduced across the board in the German state of Baden-Württemberg ) and equal care as the starting point for an individual, tailor-made division of care services.

On these pages you will find important documents that explain the arguments and rationale for shared parental responsibility.

Further explanations of the concepts of arranged mediation and equal care can be found on the relevant pages of our website.
