Zurich, 9/11/12:
The heads of the Swiss men's and fathers' organizations met on September 6, 2012 for a strategy meeting to discuss the Federal Council's proposal to revise child support law. After examining the consultation draft closely, the associations see appalling shortcomings.
The intention, which is fundamentally worthy of support, and the concrete implementation proposal are in no relation to one another: the suspicion arises that label fraud is being practiced here. The core idea of child support assumes that the child has a right to material and caring security. The men's and fathers' organizations support this principle.
A gender-equitable solution requires that both parents, in the event of separation or divorce, have an equal duty to contribute to the child's material and caring security. The Federal Council's proposal in no way meets this requirement. He sticks to the 20th-century paradigm of one parent being the guardian and the other parent being the custodian. This does not correspond to the reality of Swiss families, in which both father and mother usually work (albeit to different extents) - and also does not correspond to the spirit and spirit of joint parental care, as the Federal Council wants to enshrine in law as a rule.
The men's and fathers' organizations will demand substantial corrections in the official response to the consultation in order to bring the implementation of the child support model in line with the right to equality and equal opportunities - and to make it suitable for the family of the 21st century. They also work closely with international experts from countries that already have experience with child support.
